CHICAGO, March 8 (Xinhua) -- McDonald's same store sales worldwide in February fell 1.5 percent year on year, it was reported on Friday.
McDonald's attributed the decline to an extra day in February of last year. Otherwise, same store sales would have increased 1.7 percent, according to The Chicago Tribune.
By region, same store sales declined 3.3 percent in the United States, 0.5 percent in Europe and 1.6 percent in the Asia/Pacific region, the Middle East and Africa.
The Oak Brook-based burger giant warned in its fourth-quarter earnings report last month that February sales were likely to go down.
McDonald's reported its first monthly same-store sales decline in more than nine years in October 2012. As a result, the company changed bosses in the United States and re-emphasized its Dollar Menu.
The fast food chain runs over 34,000 restaurants around the world.
