NEW DELHI, March 4 (Xinhua) -- At least 11 children and their school bus driver were killed while 13 other students sustained injuries in a major road mishap in the northern Indian state of Punjab Monday, a senior police officer said.
"The mishap happened at 8 a.m. when the bus in which the children were traveling collided head on with a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction in the state's Jalandhar district. While seven students and the driver of the school bus were killed on the spot, four others succumbed to their injuries on way to hospital," he said, on condition of anonymity.
The other injured students have been admitted to a local hospital where the condition of some are said to be serious, he said.
A probe has been ordered, he added.
