RAMALLAH, March 2 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad on Saturday accepted the resignation tendered by Finance Minister Nabil Qassis, Palestinian National Authority (PNA) spokeswoman told Xinhua.
Nour Oudeh, the spokeswoman, declined to give more details on the reasons behind the resignation of Qassis, who took office in May 2012.
The resignation comes as the PNA is undergoing a crucial financial crisis with budget deficit climbing to about 1 billion U. S. dollars.
The financial crisis of the PNA was due to the lack of international donations and also Israel's hold on the tax revenues it collected on behalf of the PNA.
