LUXOR, Egypt, March 1 (Xinhua) -- The Egyptian government held on Friday a memorial ceremony in the southern city of Luxor for the victims of a recent hot balloon explosion that killed 19 tourists of different nationalities, including an Egyptian young woman.
The ceremony was attended by Luxor Governor Ezzat Saad, diplomats from China, Japan, Hungary and Britain, Muslim and Christian clerics, as well as residents of Luxor's al-Dabiya village where the tragedy took place.
The hot balloon carrying 21 people caught fire and exploded in Luxor on Tuesday, killing 19 and injuring the other two.
Nine of the victims are from China's Hong Kong, whose bodies have been transferred to four hospitals in Egypt's capital of Cairo. Chinese families visited the hospitals overnight Thursday and identified six victims, while the other three bodies are still undergoing DNA tests for identification.
A special memorial ceremony is scheduled to be held in Luxor for the nine Chinese victims on Saturday.
