TEHRAN, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- Israel will receive a harsh response to the recent assassination of a senior commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), Iran's Majlis (parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Commission said Saturday, according to Press TV.
On Thursday, local reports said General Hassan Shateri, who was responsible for the Iranian-financed construction projects in southern Lebanon, was assassinated by unknown gunmen as he was travelling from Syria to Lebanon.
The reports held Israeli agents responsible for the assassination of Shateri.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Majlis committee condemned the assassination of the commander, saying that the Israeli government will receive a severe response to its crime in due time and place.
Iran's Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani also condemned on Saturday the assassination, pointing out that the crime will not stop Iran from supporting the Lebanese nation. He noted that the Islamic republic will continue to back Lebanon more resolutely.
