TUNIS, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- Protesters clashed with police outside a Tunis cemetery where a slain Tunisian opposition leader would be buried shortly before his procession's entry, Shems FM reported Friday.
Damages to cars and houses were caused in the vicinity of the cemetery, Shems FM said, while Tunisian TV showed footage of two cars being burned.
Similar incidents were also reported in the capital center. Nessma TV said hundreds of young people drove cars and trucks to downtown Tunis, carrying stones and clubs.
Chokri Belaid, leader of the Popular Front and an outspoken critic, was assassinated out side his home in Tunis on Wednesday.
The assassination sparked widespread protests across the country against the Tunisian government, whom the slain leader's family suspect is responsible for his death.
