Russia has no verified information on possible nuke test in DPRK: diplomat

MOSCOW, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) -- Moscow has no verified information that the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) is going to soon conduct a nuclear test and does not comment on rumors, a high-ranking Russian diplomat said Friday.

Grigory Logvinov, the Foreign Ministry's special envoy, said various international sources have warned that the nuclear testing range in the DPRK was ready for a test.

"But in reality, we have not got information whether or not the device has been planted," Interfax news agency quoted Logvinov as saying.

Only the DPRK's experts might possess such information, he said.

Logvinov refused to comment on media reports that Pyongyang has made the political decision to conduct a nuclear test.

"We don't comment on various hypothetical speculations. We are guided with the official data available, so we don't talk about any secret decisions," he said.

Logvinov cited reports that on Jan. 26 the DPRK leadership made "serious decisions."

"We've got that official information which gives us possibility to make conclusions," he said.

South Korea, the United States and Japan on Thursday said they remained "highly cautious" about the possibility of a DPRK nuclear test. That's after the DPRK vowed to proceed with the "high-level nuclear test" and continue long-range rocket launches.
