WASHINGTON, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- A shooting was reported Thursday in a school in Atlanta, Georgia, according to local U.S. media. Reports indicated two people were injured during the incident at Price Middle School.
Fox News Atlanta said two people were wounded in the shooting, including a 14-year-old student, who was shot in the upper body, possibly in the head or back of the neck. The student was shot outside the school, and was alert and conscious before taken to the hospital.
The injured student was taken to Grady Hospital for treatment but further information was not immediately known.
A teacher also suffered minor cuts and bruises and was treated at the scene.
Reports said police have taken into custody at least one person in connection with the shooting. It is unclear at the moment as to who the suspect was and what kind of weapon was used.
The police have also placed the school in lockdown for fear of possible trampling and confusion after the shooting, and parents are not being allowed to pick up their children at this time.
The school is located in southwest Atlanta, and has about 570 pupil.
