ANKARA, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- The first bunch of batteries of Patriot missiles sent by NATO went operational in Turkish southern province of Adana on Saturday, Turkish media said.
All the batteries have been deployed in the areas close to the Turkish-Syrian border and the system has gone active and is under NATO command and control, said NATO spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Darius Kacperczyk in Adana.
The United States, Germany and the Netherlands are sending two batteries each to Turkey after the latter asked NATO for help.
All the six Patriot batteries will be connected directly to allied air command in Ramstein, Germany, according to the NATO spokesman.
