Roadside bomb kills 2 Afghan policemen, wounds 2 civilians

HERAT, Afghanistan, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- Two policemen were killed and two civilians were injured as a roadside bomb struck police van in Nimroz province 790 km southwest of Kabul on Thursday, a local official said.

"A mine planted by militants on a road in Mahajirabad area outside Nimroz provincial capital Zaranj, struck a police vehicle at 01:30 p.m. local time today killing two policemen aboard the vehicle and injuring two passersby, both women," Abdul Hai Khudri the deputy to Zaranj's governor told Xinhua.

Taliban militants fighting the government have yet to comment.

Meantime, police in the neighboring Herat province detained three terrorists and discovered explosive devices and remote control from their possessions, acting police chief of Herat province Abdul Hamid Hamidi told Xinhua, adding the trio was involved in organizing terrorist attack that killed a police constable and injured five others on Wednesday.
