MOSCOW, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- Russia is ready to host an international meeting here on Syrian refugees, President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday.
Putin made the offer when speaking to his visiting Lebanese counterpart Michel Suleiman, who proposed that such a conference could focus on the plight of refugees fleeing from Syria.
Putin said Russia welcomes Beirut's policy of non-interference into Syria's internal conflict and would provide any aid required to help those Syrians who have found refuge in Lebanon.
Earlier Wednesday, Russia airlifted out of Syria via Beirut 77 Russians who chose to leave Syria and return home.
Since March 2011, the crisis in Syria has left tens of thousands people killed and millions in need of assistance. In addition, large numbers of Syrians have fled their homeland for refuge in neighboring countries.
