Big blast rocks Syria's Aleppo university, 15 killed

DAMASCUS, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- At least 15 people were killed and 40 others injured when a big blast rocked the Aleppo university in Syria's northern city of Aleppo on Tuesday, local media said.

The blast went off in the faculty of computer science in the university, local reports said.

More details on the blast are still emerging.

Aleppo, Syria's largest city, has emerged as a main focal point of deadly violence in Syria's 22-month crisis.

The armed rebels have been pushing for territorial gains to control the city in the hope of establishing their de facto "capital" in that crucial slice of Syria.

China calls for "patience" over Syria crisis

BEIJING, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- China here on Monday called for relevant parties' patience in finding a solution to the Syria crisis, after no apparent resolution was found after the latest Geneva meeting on the issue.

At a daily press briefing, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said, "China holds that a political solution is the only realistic way out of the Syria issue." Full story
