CAIRO, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi met Wednesday with the politburo chief of Islamic Hamas movement Khaled Meshaal in Cairo, official news agency MENA reported.
The two sides discussed in the meeting the issue of inter- Palestinian reconciliation, particularly between Hamas and Fatah.
The talks also tackled efforts to lift the siege on the Hamas- ruled Gaza Strip and to unite all Palestinian factions into "one voice," Egyptian presidential spokesman Yasser Ali was quoted by MENA as saying.
An Egypt-sponsored meeting between the delegations of Hamas and Fatah is expected to take place later this evening in Cairo, but Egypt will not take part in the meeting, according to Ali.
Earlier Wednesday, Morsi held talks separately with Palestinian President and Fatah leader Mahmoud Abbas on the same issues to refresh the reconciliation file.
