BAGHDAD, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- A car bomb targeting Shiite pilgrims Thursday killed 20 people and injured 40 others in the town of Musayyib, some 60 km off Iraqi capital city Baghdad, said the police.

A police source in Babil province told Xinhua on condition of anonymity that the blast took place at a car park when pilgrims returned from the Shiite holy city of Karbala in southern Iraq.

No one has so far claimed responsibility for the incident.

Shiite pilgrims have increasingly been targeted in Iraq as they are observing the festival of Arbaeen.
