KABUL, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- A soldier with the NATO-led coalition forces was killed Thursday morning in an explosion in restive southern Afghanistan, the coalition confirmed in a statement.
"An International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) service member died following an improvised explosive device (IED) attack in southern Afghanistan today," the coalition or ISAF said in the statement.
The brief statement gave neither the nationality of the victim nor the details about the incident under the ISAF policy.
A total of 50 countries are contributing more than 100,000- strong forces in Afghanistan with over 68,000 of whom American mainly stationed in the east and south, followed by 9,500 from UK mainly based in southern Afghanistan.
A total of 405 foreign soldiers, most of whom Americans, have been killed in Afghanistan in 2012.
