KABUL, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- Up to 10 insurgents have been detained in an operation carried out by Afghan forces and the NATO- led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) troops in the country's eastern province of Ghazni, said the ISAF forces on Thursday.
"Afghan and coalition forces detained 10 insurgents and located one weapons cache during operations in eastern Afghanistan throughout the past 24 hours," the ISAF's Regional Command-East ( RC-East) said in a statement.
The joint forces detained the insurgents while investigating a weapons cache in Qarah Bagh District, the statement said, adding " The cache contained small arms and ammunition and grenades and the detained suspects were transferred to a base for questioning."
Operations in RC-East are ongoing, it said.
The Taliban insurgent group, which has been waging an insurgency of more than one decade, has yet to make comments.
The Afghan security forces and more than 100,000 NATO-led coalition troops continue to press Taliban and other militant groups in the country despite a decrease in violent attacks due to cold weather in the militancy-hit country.
Figures released by the Afghan Interior Ministry showed more than 90 insurgents had been killed and nearly 190 others detained in December during military operations across the country.
