AMMAN, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- Jordan on Saturday voiced keenness on Syria's unity, stressing that developments in Syria increase pressure on Jordan, which is hosting more than 275,000 Syrian refugees.
In a press conference Saturday, Samih Maaytah, Jordanian minister of state for media affairs, said Jordan wants Syria to always remain united, adding that worsening security conditions in Syria would increase problems in Jordan.
Meanwhile, the minister said Jordan is keen on protecting its borders and armed forces from any external impacts, even if that includes chemical weapons, in reference to the alleged chemical weapon stockpiles in Syria.
Jordan has the right to take any measure to protect its territories and people, said the minister, adding that Jordan is keen not to interfere in Syrian internal affairs.
The minister also stressed that Jordan fully supports the creation of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state.
