SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- At least two people were killed and more injured on Tuesday when a gunman opened fire at a mall in the U.S. state of Oregon.
The shooting occurred Tuesday afternoon at the Clackamas Town Center Mall, about 17.7 km southeast of downtown Portland, the most populous city in Oregon.
Local police said the shooter "has been neutralized," but declined to say whether it meant the suspect was dead, immobilized or in custody.
According to local newspaper The Oregonian, preliminary reports to the emergency dispatches said a man with a semiautomatic rifle opened fire near a Macy' s department store in the mall at 3:29 local time.
The gunman, who may have been wearing body armor and camouflage clothing, was also seen near the mall's food court, said the newspaper.
A witness told The Oregonian that as many as 60 shots were fired and crowds of shoppers were seen running from the mall.
