KHARTOUM, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- A report released by Sudanese Interior Ministry showed that 283 people were killed and 17,970 others injured due to traffic accidents in Sudan during 2012, Khartoum's Al Ray Al Am daily reported Tuesday.
"The highest rate of traffic accidents which led to death was because of wrong crossing of the road," the daily quoted Sudanese Interior Minister Ibrahim Mahmoud Hamid as saying.
The minister said that his ministry was working to reduce the traffic accidents by installing radars to monitor the highways in the country, adding that the traffic accidents' rate in Sudan is less than the rate in the Arabic and other African countries.
Many traffic accidents took place during Eid seasons that tens of thousands of Sudanese head to different states of Sudan to celebrate the Eid with their relatives.
