ISLAMABAD, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- A senior al-Qaeda commander was among the four militants killed in a Sunday U.S. drone strike in Pakistan's northwest tribal area of North Waziristan, said intelligence officials.

Local media Geo quoted unidentified military intelligence officials as saying that Mohammad Almed Almansoor and three other militants were killed when U.S. drones fired four missiles at a house located in the Tibbi village near Miranshah, capital town of North Waziristan, on Sunday morning.

Local residents told media that four U.S. drones were involved in the attack and the strike destroyed two rooms and a car.

Fire erupted following the strike, they said, adding that the drones remained hovering over the area for a while before they flew away.

Mohammad Almed Almansoor is the third militant leader reportedly killed in U.S. drone strikes in Pakistan since December. In the previous two U.S. drone drones, two other militant leaders, including Abdul Rehman Azman, a Yemeni national believed to a close aide of the former al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden, were also reportedly killed.

Sunday's U.S. drone strike is the 38th of its kind (counted on daily basis) in Pakistan in 2012. At least 269 people have been killed in such strikes so far this year.
