ISTANBUL, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- About 150 representatives from over 50 countries and international organizations gathered here Tuesday in preparation for the 3rd Nuclear Security Summit to be held in 2014 in The Hague.
During the two-day preparatory meeting in the Turkish largest city, high-level officials from across the world are expected to analyze steps taken since the Seoul Summit in March and begin preparations for the next summit.
The delegations will also talk about international cooperation concerning nuclear security during the meeting.
Turkish officials said Turkey will once again state its determination and stand for non-proliferation at this meeting. " Our determination to benefit from nuclear energy with the highest security and safety standards is very clear," said Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Murat Mercan in his opening speech.
The 3rd Nuclear Security Summit, aiming to prevent illicit trafficking of nuclear material and nuclear terrorism, and to merge the efforts towards the goal of achieving nuclear security and safety, will be held in the Netherlands in 2014.
The first two summits were held in Washington of the United States in April 2010 and Seoul of South Korea in March 2012 respectively.
