ISLAMABAD, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- At least three people were killed and over a dozen injured when a blast hit a Shia Muslim procession marking Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar, in Pakistan's northwest district of Dera Ismail Khan on Sunday morning, according to police and local media reports.

This is the second blast in the district in less than two days. Police said that the blast could be of suicide nature.

The blast took place at about 10:30 a.m. local time when a bomb hidden inside a shop in the Chowgalia Chowk area of the district hit a Shia procession passing by.

All the injured have been shifted to the district headquarters hospital. Hospital sources said that some of victims were critically injured.

Police have cordoned off the area and the army has also been called in to the blast site.

A suspicious gas cylinder has also been recovered at the blast site, said police.

Other details about the blast are not immediately available as mobile services in the district have been suspended by the government as a measure to counter the possible terrorist attacks during Muharram.

At about 9:55 a.m. local time Saturday morning, a bomb hit a Shia Muslim procession in the same district, killing at least eight people including four kids and wounding over 25 others.
