DOHA, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- Syrian opposition groups struck a deal in Doha on Sunday in an effort to form a united national front against the Syrian government led by President Bashar al- Assad, a member of the Syrian National Council said.
The opposition groups have been holding meetings for days in the Qatari capital, exploring ways to bridge gaps and fractures among themselves.

Syrian opposition bloc elects new head
DOHA, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- Syrian major opposition bloc, the Syrian National Council (SNC), elected George Sabra as its new head during a meeting here on Friday.
Sabra, a Christian born in 1947 in Syria's Damascus, was elected out of two candidates to succeed Abdel Baset Seda as the chairman of SNC executive board. Full story
Opposition meeting aggravates Syrian situation: deputy FM
DAMASCUS, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- Syria's Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mikdad said Monday that the main goals behind the opposition conference, currently underway in the Qatari capital of Doha, contributes only to aggravating the situation in Syria.
Speaking during a meeting in Damascus Monday on humanitarian issues, Mikdad said the United States and its backers swing in supporting a group of opposition and marginalize another one as well as creating other parties. Full story
