DAMASCUS, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- Three mortar shells slammed al- Midan district of Syrian capital Damascus Thursday morning, leaving material damage with no reports of casualties, sources said.
One of the shells landed in the vicinity of the state-owned Tishreen newspaper building, sources said.
Al-Midan district has witnessed one of the most intense clashes between the armed rebels and the government troops. However, the district has largely regained its tranquility since the army flushed out the insurgents, who always seem to opt for finding cover in populated areas.
Violence has escalated dramatically in the capital Damascus over the past days with daily explosions and mortar shell firing.
