ANKARA, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- Turkish fighter jets struck bases of the outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) in northern Iraq on Friday, local newspaper Today's Zaman reported on its website.
Four Turkish F-16 jets struck the PKK targets in the region, said the report, adding that the Turkish warplanes heavily shelled the PKK's Hakurk camp, which straddles the borders among Turkey, Iraq and Iran.
The PKK, listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union, took up arms in 1984 in an attempt to create an ethnic homeland in southeastern Turkey. Since then, over 40,000 people have been killed in conflicts involving the group.
