15 injured in Damascus blast: state media

DAMASCUS, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- A total of 15 people were injured Monday when "terrorists" blasted a car in Jaramana suburb of the Syrian capital Damascus, the state-run SANA news agency reported, adding that the material damage is "huge."

Aside from the 15 injured people, SANA said, the blast smashed 20 cars and 15 shops.

It added that the blast is another violation of the cease-fire that was supposed to take effect during the four-day Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha.

Witnesses told Xinhua earlier that the blast rocked al-Rawda Street in Jaramana, adding that the blast site is some 200 meters away from an area police station and a branch of the ruling al- Baath party, and also 50 meters from an electricity service center.

Jaramana, largely dominated by Syrian Christians and Druz, has witnessed a string of blasts over the past months of crisis in Syria that resulted in scores of deaths.

The incessant violence across Syria have practically unraveled the UN-backed cease-fire deal, with government forces and armed groups blaming each other for the incessant fighting, now in its 19th month.

The cease-fire has been put forward by the UN-Arab League special representative, Lakhdar Brahimi, who pushed the conflicting parties in Syria to observe a truce during the Eid al- Adha.

Brahimi's truce, which supposedly went into effect on Friday, has been strained by consistent fighting between rebels and government forces.
