AMMAN, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- The Jordan Armed Forces on Monday said Corporal Mohammad Manasir died during a gunfire exchange with an armed group that attempted to cross the Jordanian-Syrian borders illegally, the state-run Petra news agency reported.

The corporal died around 10:30 p.m. Sunday as the army exchanged fire with the armed group of eight members, the armed forces said in a statement on Petra.

The group was in possession of Kalashnikov assault rifles and other types of rifles, said the source.

The army added that it also exchanged fire with another takfiri armed group that tried to cross the borders at Sunday midnight. The army arrested the five members of the group who had Kalashnikov assault rifles and other rifles.

One of the armed group's members was seriously injured, said the source.
