ANKARA, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- Three soldiers of the Turkish security forces were wounded in clashes with smugglers on the border with Syria, private Dogan news agency reported Sunday.
The clashes started Saturday night when smugglers carrying tea and cigarettes fired at Turkish soldiers on duty at a border post as they were passing over the border.
Violence escalated when the Turkish soldiers responded with fire, but the smugglers then escaped into Syrian territory.
The wounded were taken to a hospital for treatment and were in good conditions, the report said.
