NEW DELHI, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- In a tragic incident, 10 members of a family were charred to death when their house was engulfed in flames in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh Saturday, a senior police official said.

"The incident happened in the town of Agra early this morning. All the 10 members of the family, including two couples and their six children, were asleep on the first floor of their house when it caught fire following a cylinder burst. While they were charred to death, other occupants of the house could escape with minor injuries," he said.

A probe has been ordered into the incident, the official said, adding that the bodies have been sent for post mortem to a nearby hospital.
