SYDNEY, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- The killer of Australian cardiac surgeon Victor Chang will be released from prison and deported to Malaysia soon after a Sydney court dismissed an appeal by the New South Wales (NSW) Government over his parole, local media reported Thursday.
Malaysian national Chiew Seng Liew was sentenced to a maximum of 26 years in jail for the murder of Dr Chang in Sydney in 1991 during a failed extortion attempt.
Liew, 69, who suffers from Parkinson's disease and the early stages of dementia, was granted parole by the State Parole Authority in September after serving 21 years of his sentence.
NSW Attorney-General Greg Smith applied for a review of the parole, raising questions about Liew's medical condition.
But in the NSW Supreme Court on Thursday, Justice Robert Beech- Jones dismissed the appeal, the Australian Associated Press (AAP) reported.
Liew is to be deported to Malaysia soon after release.
