MAPUTO, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Mozambican President Armando Guebuza on Monday announced the replacement of the prime minister and other changes in a government reshuffle.
According to a communique, Guebuza removed Aires Ali as prime minister and replaced him with Alberto Vaquina, who had been serving as the governor of the northwestern province of Tete.
Guebuza also removed the tourism minister, Fernando Sumbana Jr, who became the minister of sport and youth.
Carvalho Muaria, who had been serving as the governor of the central province of Sofala, was made the minister of tourism.
In other changes, former science and technology minister Venancio Massingue was replaced by Louis Augusto Mutombene Pelembe. Another cabinet member Zeferino Martins was replaced by August Jone Luis.
The shakeup followed the 10th congress of the ruling Frelimo party, which was held in the northernmost province of Cabo Delgado at the end of last month.
