Venezuela's Chavez wraps up presidential campaign

CARACAS, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez wrapped up his reelection campaign for a third term Thursday, two days before voters go to the polls.

"On Oct. 7, the life of Venezuela is at risk," said Chavez. "In our hands, the life of the country will not be lost, the future will not be lost."

He said he needs six more years in office to consolidate his socialist policies.

Addressing supporters in red T-shirts and berets, Chavez called for a "red avalanche" to go out and vote early on Sunday so that his victory will be ensured by noon.

Henrique Capriles, Chavez's arch rival and the opposition presidential candidate, concluded his campaign tour outside Caracas after holding a massive rally in the capital Sunday.

Some 19 million Venezuelans are eligible to vote in Sunday's election to decide who will lead the country until 2019.
