NEW DELHI, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- India and Australia are likely to ink a civil nuclear agreement when Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard visits New Delhi on October 15, highly placed sources said.
"The civil nuclear pact is expected to be signed between the two countries during Prime Minister Gillard's three-day visit during which she will meet Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh," the sources said.
Months ago, Australia had reversed a longstanding ban on uranium sale to India.
"However, if the pact is inked, then Australia is likely to demand a strict uranium safeguards agreement and more access to Indian nuclear facilities to inspect safe use of uranium supplied to India," the sources added.
Australia has the largest uranium deposits in the world.
