MOSCOW, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- The ruling party of Russia stands ready to conduct dialogue with Georgia over bilateral relations, Russian Prime Minister and leader of the United Russia party Dmitry Medvedev said Tuesday.
The results of Georgian parliamentary elections showed people of that country want change, and the political landscape will be diversified, Medvedev told local media when asked about his opinion on the subject.
"If these results become a reality, Georgia will have a more diverse political landscape. That should be welcomed, because probably, more constructive and responsible forces will appear in the parliament," RIA Novosti news agency quoted Medvedev as saying.
As a leading political force in Russia, the United Russia "is ready for the dialogue on the future of Russian-Georgian relations, " Medvedev said.
Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili Tuesday conceded defeat of his United National Movement party in the legislative elections held on Monday after early official results indicated that the opposition party Georgian Dream won the elections.
In a televised speech, the president said that he would respect voters' will and his own ruling party would go into opposition.
Meanwhile, Georgian billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili, the de facto leader of the opposition coalition Georgian Dream, Tuesday suggested that the incumbent Georgian president resign.
Moscow and Tbilisi have been at odds over the status of Georgia 's breakaway regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Moscow recognized their independence in August 2008 following a brief armed conflict with Georgia. In response, Georgia severed diplomatic relations with Russia.
