KABUL, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- A total of 16 Taliban militants have been killed in military operations in Afghanistan within the past 24 hours, the Afghan Interior Ministry said Sunday.
"Afghan national police, Afghan army, intelligence agency and the NATO-led coalition forces launched 10 joint cleanup operations in Sar-e-Pul, Kandahar, Uruzgan, Wardak, Logar, Herat, Farah, Ghor and Helmand provinces, killing 16 armed Taliban insurgents and detaining 22 others over the past 24 hours," the ministry said in a statement.
They also found and seized weapons, the statement said, without saying if there were any casualties on the side of security forces.
Up to 10 insurgents were also injured in the raids, it said.
However, the Taliban insurgent group, which announced the launching of an annual spring offensive from May 3 against Afghan and about 100,000 U.S. and NATO forces, has not to make comments yet.
