DUBAI, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- Two thieves who conducted an armed robbery on a money exchange office and stole cash valued at around 272,000 U.S. dollars were arrested on the same day thanks to surveillance technology and swift action by local police authorities, local media reported Monday.
The two robbers, armed with guns and masked from tip to toe assaulted an exchange office in Dubai Motor City in "plain daylight," local news channel Dubai TV reported, showing footage of the assault shot by video surveillance cameras.
The two thieves threatened employees of the money exchange and then climbed over the glass barrier, stealing various packages of currencies from the cashier's desk. The obviously well-planned attack lasted for only 30 seconds, and the stolen money amounts to 1 million dirhams (about 0.27 million U.S. dollars).
No injuries were reported, but police found the four staff working at the exchange during the robbery in a condition of shock and awe.
The exchange's staff immediately triggered the alarm and police forces rushed to the scene. According to the report, police and the criminal investigation department ordered 243 staff to start the hunt on the thieves by spotting their getaway car with surveillance cameras stationed on Dubai's roads. The suspects, of Arab nationality, were later arrested in the Bur Dubai district.
