SYDNEY, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- Six snakes and two American alligators have been stolen from a zoo in the Hunter region of New South Wales (NSW), Australia, NSW Police said Monday.

Police said the reptiles were stolen from the zoo at the town of Nulkaba between 6 p.m. on Sunday and 8 a.m. on Monday (local time).

The snakes, including a water python, a Woma python, a Murray Darling python, a black headed python and two diamond pythons, are not venomous, but the two alligators, measuring 60 centimeters and 80 centimeters long, could pose a danger if released into the wild.

Police are investigating the break-in and urging anyone in possession of the reptiles to contact police and return them.
