DAMASCUS, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- The Syrian troops carried out a number of operations in the northern province of Aleppo on Monday, as part of the military showdown currently underway in the key province between the regular troops and armed rebels, who are vying for a foothold there.
The state-run SANA news agency said that the Syrian army carried out Monday "qualitative" operations at Orm orchards, Baedeen roundabout, and al-Mansour area in the countryside of Aleppo, adding that scores of "terrorists" had been killed.
The army also clashed in other areas of Aleppo Sunday, said SANA.
Meanwhile, the oppositional Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said violence clashes took place Monday between the army and rebel fighters at the Tariq Halab district in the central province of Hama.
The Local Coordination Committees, another group of activists, also reported violence, clashes and government troops shelling on a number of rebellious areas nationwide. It says around 58 people have so far been killed. Yet, such accounts cannot be verified independently.
