MOSCOW, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- A Russian refrigerated cargo vessel sank Sunday in the Sea of Okhotsk off Russia's Far Eastern Kamchatka peninsula, the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry said.
According to the ministry, all eight crew members were rescued.
"At 1:15 p.m. Moscow time (09:15 a.m. GMT), the PTR-West transport refrigerator overturned in the Sea of Okhotsk, 8 km off the coast," the ministry said in a statement.
"The crew of eight members boarded two life rafts," the ministry said, adding two fishing boats and an Mi-8 helicopter were involved in the rescue operation.
The cargo ship "West", with a load of 49 tons, was heading to the Far Eastern city of Manily. The wind speed in the region was 11 meters per second when the accident occurred.
The cause of the sinking remains unknown. An investigation has been launched.
