CAIRO, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi expressed optimism of success regarding Egypt's initiative over Syria crisis, an interview with Egyptian State TV reported Tuesday.

The quartet committee kicked off its first foreign ministers' meeting on Monday, attended by Egypt, Turkey and Iran in the absence of the fourth member Saudi Arabia.

In a TV interview with "Good Morning Egypt" program, Salehi said the initiative came in the right time, and it met the efforts of the international society passing by the UN-AL convey which is likely to present special suggestions for Syria.

A meeting with the UN and the Arab League's (AL) joint representative to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi is necessary to coordinate efforts for solving the Syrian crisis, he added.

Salehi expressed optimism over the Egyptian initiative " although the Syrian issue is very sensitive, and it is unlikely be solved in one meeting".

Solving the Syrian crisis requires negotiations and consultations with all parties, "the Syrian government and also opposition", to study the suggested plans.

Salehi said there were many aspects of consensus, but differences over some matters require more consultation in the future, particularly on the sideline of the UN Assembly General meeting.

Aspects of differences during the meeting topped by asking the Syrian president to resign, added Salehi "imposing previous conditions will weaken solving the problem, and good intentions are required in this stage".

He reiterated the stance of his country over the Syrian crisis is obvious from the beginning, as Iran has announced the Syrian regime should respond to the Syrian demands.

Salehi stressed that the Syrian crisis should be solved within Syria, a way that he dubbed a "Syria-Syria solution", while adding that "we cannot seek to impose a solution forcefully onto Syria."

He stressed his country's respect for Egypt, and that bilateral relations between the two countries could be expanded, "the investments market in Egypt is an attractive element for Iran".

Meanwhile, Salehi added accusations said Iran seeks to spread the Shiism is baseless.

Concerning the Israeli threats, he said "our country takes any threat no matter came from big or small country seriously, and we are ready to defend our country".

But the Israeli threats are nonsense. "if it has the ability to attack Iran, it wouldn't need to make all this media show".

Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi and Salehi discussed here on Tuesday the Syrian crisis as well as regional and international developments, official news agency MENA said.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr was present at the talks.

In statements following the talks, Salehi said Egyptian-Iranian relations are getting better and Tehran feels optimistic about the future of their relations.

Salehi said "economic and trade relations are going on well and trade between the two countries multiplied over the past few months".
