PYONGYANG, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from recent floods in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) has risen to 300, while 600 others remain missing, the official KCNA news agency reported Friday.

The floods between mid-June and late August destroyed 87,280 houses and affected roughly 298,050 residents, damaging farmland and social infrastructure such as electric cables, coal mines and railways, according to the KCNA.

Typhoon Bolaven, which pounded most of the country in late August, inflicted the largest damage, leaving 59 people dead and 50 others missing, it added.

The DPRK said Wednesday that it would not accept a "negligible" amount of aid from South Korea, accusing the southern neighbor of lacking sincerity, the KCNA reported Thursday.
