DAMASCUS, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al- Moallem will meet with the new joint special envoy Lakhdar Brahimi on Thursday afternoon, Syrian foreign ministry spokesman said in a statement Wednesday.
Brahimi is tasked with brokering a diplomatic solution to the conflict after replacing former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, who stepped down as the UN-Arab League (AL) joint special envoy in August in frustration after his six-point peace plan collapsed.
Speaking at a news conference after meeting with a number of Egyptian leaders in Cairo, Brahimi said that there will be "no miracle" solution to ending the crisis in Syria.
"I hope very much that there is an end, and I am sure there will be an end. What is necessary is for the parties to realise that the earlier there's a solution, the better (it will be) for the Syrian people," he said.
Brahimi said he would travel to Syria this week to meet with Syrian officials.
