ABIDJAN, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- A patrol boat for the Cote d'Ivoire's navy sunk between Wednesday night and Thursday morning not far away from the Locodjro naval base in Abidjan, a security source told Xinhua on Thursday.

Well placed sources said the boat which was patrolling the area, crashed into an obstacle before sinking.

Residents of Locodjro locality in western Abidjan where the accident occurred, said at least 15 marines who were on board the ship were still missing.

Other reports said at least seven soldiers have died among the 15 who were on board the patrol boat which sunk at around 1:00 a.m. (local time and GMT).

By mid-day, there was no official information, whether regarding the death toll or the cause of the accident. However, a military source said Cote d'Ivoire's Defence Minister Paul Koffi Koffi and senior military officials had visited the scene of the tragedy.
