PARIS, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- Four people were found shot dead and a girl was seriously wounded in a scenic spot in the eastern French Alps, local authorities said Wednesday.
The bodies of a man and two women were discovered in a car with British license plates. The corpse of a second man, a cyclist, was found near the car, with dozens of bullet casings scattered on the ground.
A young girl, discovered at the site with gunshot wounds, was rushed to a regional hospital Wednesday afternoon.
The bodies were found by a cyclist who was on a leisure ride Wednesday afternoon.
Police have fanned out in the forest of Chevaline to search for possible perpetrator. Till now, they could not establish a theory about what happened there and the victims' nationalities and identities are unclear.
The British Foreign Office said it is looking into the incident.
The site around the car has been cordoned off, pending forensic examinations before the removal of the corpses. Autopsies are reportedly to be carried out on Thursday or Friday.
The shooting took place near Lake Annecy, the second largest lake in France and a popular tourist destination known for swimming and water sports.
