TEHRAN, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast has dismissed the statement by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) regarding three disputed islands in the Persian Gulf.
"The islands of the Greater and Lesser Tunbs and Abu Musa are inseparable parts of the Islamic Republic of Iran's territory and they will remain Iranian islands forever," Mehmanparast was quoted as saying by Press TV on Tuesday.
The six members of the Gulf Cooperation Council, including Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), at a meeting in Saudi Arabia's Jeddah city on Sunday, supported the UAE's position over three Persian Gulf islands.
Iran and the UAE both claimed territorial sovereignty over three Islands of the Greater and Lesser Tunbs and Abu Musa in the Gulf, and have been at odds over them for decades. The islands are currently under the control of the Islamic republic.
In the statement, the GCC also accused Iran of "interfering" in the internal affairs of some of its member states.
On Tuesday, Mehmanparast rejected the "old" allegations about Iran's interference in the internal affairs of the GCC member states, said Press TV.
