DAMASCUS, Sep.2 (Xinhua) -- At least four people were injured Sunday when two explosive devices went off in the upscale neighborhood of Abu-Rummaneh in the Syrian capital of Damascus, Syria's state media said.

The state-TV said the blast occurred at al-Mahdi Bin Baraka street, some 200 meters away from the army's main headquarters, adding that the blast was also close to the guarding battalion of the Syrian forces.

The area is heavily guarded and contains sensitive posts and bases for the Syrian security and army. But the explosive devices that blasted Sunday had been small enough that they caused only the four injuries and some minor property damages.

The state TV aired no live footage of the blast apparently due to the sensitivity of the targeted area.

Sunday's blast followed the explosion of three car bombs that blasted on Saturday in Damascus and eastern Deir al-Zour province, in which at least 17 people were killed.

The armed rebels seem to have opted to carry out such brazen blasts as the direct showdown with the military forces mostly ends with the army's victory.
