KUNDUZ, Afghanistan, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- At least 16 civilians were killed in an attack carried out by irresponsible armed men Sunday morning in northern Afghan province of Kunduz, the police said Sunday.
"A group of irresponsible armed men opened indiscriminate firing against civilians in Kanam area of provincial capital Kunduz city early Sunday morning, killing 16 civilians," a provincial police source told Xinhua anonymously .
Meantime, a local resident said that the group which is commanding by a man named Qadir carried the attack in retaliation as Taliban insurgents killed one of his man late Saturday night in the area.
Hospital sources also confirmed that 16 killed civilians have been admitted to the Emergency Hospital in Kunduz city Sunday morning.
The police source said several people were missing after the attack and the number of the casualties could go higher.
