IBADAN, Nigeria, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- Nigerian road safety authorities said Friday that 905 people were killed last year in traffic accidents involving trucks.
Godwin Ogagaoghene, chief of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), revealed the figures at a ceremony in southwest Oyo State to present 500 helmets, 500 snooze alarms and 6,000 reflective tapes to truck drivers and motorcycle riders.
The FRSC head advised truck drivers to fix the reflective tapes given to them to make their vehicles visible at night to other road users.
Ogagaoghene also advised other motorists to always make use of the items to reduce road traffic accidents.
The items were jointly donated by the FRSC and the Arrive Alive Road Safety Initiative, an NGO based in Oyo State.
