MOSCOW, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Russia is going to attend an international consultative meeting on Syria to be held in Iran on Thursday, the Foreign Ministry said Wednesday.
Russia will be represented by the Ambassador to Iran Levan Dzhagaryan.
"If the Tehran meeting takes place, Russia will be represented at it by its ambassador to Iran," the Foreign Ministry's spokeswoman Mariya Zakharova told reporters here.
According to Zakharova, Russia has received an invitation to the forum but on a very short notice.
At the meeting, "Moscow will push for immediate end of bloodshed and sufferings of the civilian population in Syria, for a peaceful solution to be reached in the interests of all Syrians through a broad political dialogue, as provided by Kofi Annan's plan and relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council," she said.
On Wednesday, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian said the consultative meeting on Syria would be attended by foreign ministers from a number of countries that have influential views on both regional and international issues.
On Aug 3, Abdollahian visited Moscow and talked with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov. The two urged " consolidated international efforts" for a peaceful settlement to end the 17-month Syrian crisis based on the UN-Arab League joint special envoy Kofi Annan's peace plan and the Geneva agreements that envisaged a Syrian-led transition.
