SANTO DOMINGO, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- Haitian police said they seized 453.8 kg of cocaine and 1.59 tons of marihuana Friday during an operation in the country's east.
Anti-drug police officers also arrested 185 people during the operation, which was carried out in Ganthier city, 27 km east of Port-au-Prince and near the border with the Dominican Republic.
Among them, 45 people are related to cocaine and 140 to marihuana, according to the police.
Last February, Haitian police seized 300 kg of cocaine in a home in Croix de Bouquets, 13 km northeast of Port-au-Prince, and arrested a Colombian and a Haitian.
Hispaniola Island, which Haiti and the Dominican Republic share, is widely seen as a main drug-trafficking passage from South America to Europe and the United States.
